Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry grows by almost 4%

Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector showed a 3.6 percent growth in January-September 2016, while the oil sector – decrease by 0.2 percent compared to the same period of 2015, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector showed a 3.6 percent growth in January-September 2016, while the oil sector – decrease by 0.2 percent compared to the same period of 2015, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

According to the report, the total volume of industrial production (the volume of produced goods and rendered industrial services) in Azerbaijan amounted to 23 billion manats (official exchange rate for Oct. 21 is 1.6091AZN/USD) in January-September 2016, which is 0.2 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry reached 15.1 billion manats (65.7 percent) of the entire industrial production, which is 0.3 percent more than in January-September 2015, the report said.

According to the report, oil production volume amounted to 31.29 million tons, while natural gas production was 22.05 billion cubic meters during the reporting period.

Oil production decreased by 0.3 percent, gas production increased by 3.8 percent in January-September 2016 as compared to the same period of 2015, the report said.

The production volume in the processing industry amounted to 6.5 billion manats (28.2 percent of total industrial output) during the reporting period or by 0.7 percent more than in the same period of 2015, the report said.

In the sector, the highest growth was fixed in the production of computers, electronic products – by 2.6 times, weaving industry – by 2.7 times, repair and installation of machinery and equipment - by 53.6 percent, the report said.

Production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam decreased by 2.9 percent in January-September 2016 as compared to the same period of 2015, while water supply, treatment and recycling of waste decreased by 0.2 percent.
