Germany’s major transportation and logistics company DHL is interested in conducting freight traffic between Europe and Asia through Azerbaijan, Nadir Azmammadov, spokesperson of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, told Trend Oct. 24.

Azmammadov said that the development and prospects of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which is a part of the East-West transportation corridor, were discussed during a meeting of the head of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov with the head of DHL’s Shanghai branch Allen Chen in China.

“Representatives of the German company expressed their interest in implementation of cargo traffic between Asia and Europe, using the corridor that passes through Azerbaijan,” noted the spokesperson.

It was noted that after commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, which is a part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the volume of freight traffic via the corridor will increase and simultaneously, cargos’ delivery period between Asia and Europe will decrease, he added.

DHL is present in over 220 countries and territories across the globe, making it the most international company in the world. With a workforce exceeding 340,000 employees, we provide solutions for an almost infinite number of logistics needs.

DHL is part of the world’s leading postal and logistics company Deutsche Post DHL Group, and encompasses the business units DHL Express, DHL Parcel, DHL eCommerce, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Freight and DHL Supply Chain.
