US dollar sales at exchange points in Kazakhstan drastically decreased in January-September 2016, Kazakh National Bank said.
Dollar sales during the period were at the lowest level since 2001 when Kazakhstan started to collect data on this indicator.
Gross purchase of US dollar by population hit $6.199 billion in January-September 2016, which is two times lower than the average purchase in the previous 10-year period.
The National Bank also noted that Kazakhs preferred to save money in national currency, tenge, in 2016.
The volume of deposits in tenge has increased by 68.2 percent since the beginning of 2016, while deposits in foreign currency have reduced by 10.5 percent.
