By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in its November report forecasts the GDP growth in Turkmenistan at 6.5 percent in 2016 and at 7.1 percent in 2017.

Experts of the bank note that the GDP growth in Turkmenistan amounted to 6.5 percent in 2015, compared to 10.3 percent in 2014.

The stringent foreign exchange regulations that have been introduced in the country in 2015-2016 are negatively affecting the ability of businesses to carry out import-export operations, according to the report.

EBRD report said earlier that the risks to the outlook on economic growth of Central Asian countries include the possibility of a sharp deceleration in growth in China, a prolonged weakness in commodity prices and a possible further drop in the price of oil.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of the gas reserves, and exports gas to China and Iran.
