Azerbaijan and Pakistan have agreed on the main areas of bilateral economic cooperation, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Pakistan's federal minister for commerce, told reporters in Baku.

“We have agreed on three main areas to work in. The first area is the creation of a joint working group to review the issue of preferential trade between our countries,” the minister said.

He added that the second area is the development of relations between the two countries’ business circles, as well as creation of joint ventures.

The third area is the simplification of customs and visa procedures between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, according to Dastgir Khan.

A working group for the review of the preferential trade is to be established soon, the minister said.

“The group will have to determine the products to be included in the list of preferential goods,” Dastgir Khan said.

There is great potential for creation of joint ventures in agriculture, pharmaceutics, weaving and energy industries, he added.

The minister also noted the importance of simplifying the visa regime, customs and other registration procedures between the countries.

“This applies to non-tariff issues in the first place and will help expand cooperation between Azerbaijani and Pakistani business entities,” he said.
