Azerbaijan plans to create 18,900 new jobs in logistics and trade by 2020, says the Strategic Road Map for the development of logistics and trade in the Republic of Azerbaijan, published by official press Dec. 30.

Implementation of the measures reflected in this Road Map is expected to help increase Azerbaijan’s GDP by 605 million manats until 2020.

According to the document, three strategic goals were identified for the development of logistics and trade. These are creation of a favorable environment to increase trade turnover going through Azerbaijan, introduction of a mechanism to implement goals in logistics and trade, and getting a higher added value from transit trade.

The Road Map authors note that due to the implementation of these measures, it is planned to increase Azerbaijan’s share of maritime cargo transportation via the Central Asia-Black Sea route to 40 percent, via the Central Asia-Europe route to 25 percent, via the China-Europe route to 3 percent, via the Russia-Iran route to 40 percent and via the Iran-Black Sea route to 25 percent.

It is also planned to increase revenues from air transportation by 5 percent until 2020, as well as build five or six logistics and trade centers. Construction of four of the centers must be completed by 2020.
