Electrification of railway station in south Uzbekistan completed

Uzbekistan Railways JSC finished the electrification of the 90-kilometer long Karshi-Dehkanabad section of the Karshi-Termez railway in southern Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Railways press service reported.

In total, 2,000 concrete poles, 1,800 consoles and other structures were built at the site and 224 kilometers of overhead lines were fine tuned, according to the message.

It was previously reported that the cost of the project for the electrification of the Karshi – Termez railway with a total length of 325 kilometers is $388.23 million.

The project is carried out at the expense of Uzbekistan Railways and the loan of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) amounting to $220.6 million.

The credit agreement between Uzbekistan’s government and JICA was signed in 2012.

Overall, 1,700 kilometers of Uzbek railways are electrified as of today, 500 kilometers of them were commissioned in 2016.

It is planned to electrify about 2,000 kilometers of railways in total in Uzbekistan.
