Azerbaijan increases agricultural production

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan increased by 2.6 percent in 2016, said the report issued by the country’s agriculture ministry.

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan increased by 2.6 percent in 2016, said the report issued by the country’s agriculture ministry.

During the reporting period, the livestock and crop production increased by 2.8 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, according to the report.

Nearly 3.1 million tons of grain were harvested for the year from 997,500 hectares in Azerbaijan, which is 2.2 percent more than in 2015. An average of 30.7 centners of harvest was collected from each hectare.

As much as 902,400 tons of potatoes (7.5 percent annual growth), 1.26 million tons of vegetables (0.5 percent decrease), 464,600 tons of melons (4.1 percent decrease), 883,700 tons of fruits and berries (0.5 percent decrease), 134,500 tons of grapes (14.4 percent growth), 1,015 tons of green tea leaves (75.4 percent growth), 321,300 tons of sugar beet (72.7 percent growth), 17,100 tons of sunflower (9.3 percent decrease), 3,598 tons of tobacco leaves (3.8 percent growth) were harvested in 2016, according to the report.

As much as 87,200 tons of cotton were collected in Azerbaijan as of Dec. 26, 2016, which is 2.5 times more than in the same period of 2015.

Moreover, Azerbaijan produced 523,800 tons of meat (1.6 percent growth for the year), 2 million tons of milk (4.4 percent growth), 1.6 million eggs (3.7 percent growth) and 16,700 tons of wool (2.1 percent decrease) in 2016.
