President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to continue reforming agriculture sphere and harvest 1.05 million tons of cotton in 2017, the Turkmen government said in a message Jan. 18.
The total area of the cultivated land is more than 500,000 hectares.
In total, 1.07 million tons of cotton were harvested in Turkmenistan in 2016.
Cotton is the main raw material for the textile industry of Turkmenistan. Moreover, it is an important export product.
The country supplies cotton to China, Russia, the UK, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and Baltic countries. Cotton products are sold through auctions in Turkmenistan’s commodity and raw materials exchange.
