Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is considering provision of debt financing for construction, connection to the power transmission grid, commissioning and launch of Gulshat Solar Power Plant in Kazakhstan, the bank said in a message.
The Bank is contemplating a senior loan of up to $16 million for this project and the Board of the Bank will consider the possibility of issuing the loan in September 2017.

The capacity of the plant located in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda Region will hit 40 MW. The project is estimated to cost $69.11 million. EBRD, as co-financier, is contemplating a senior loan of up to $30 million.

The project will increase the renewable energy capacity of Kazakhstan in the country’s remote populations and reduce the dependence of the coal burnt generation to meet the increasing demand. Being located in the south of Kazakhstan, which is characterized by electricity supply gaps, the project will help to decrease the region’s deficit.
