By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

Over the recent 10 years, the crediting of agriculture in Azerbaijan grew by more than five times, Deputy Agriculture Minister Seyfaddin Talibov told reporters in Baku Apr. 12.

Talibov noted that despite such a growth, these funds are not enough to meet the increasing demand in loan resources.

“In total, agriculture is considered as a risky sector [for crediting]. Throughout the world, credit organizations don’t consider this sphere as attractive for investments. Such a situation is also observed in Azerbaijan,” he said.

“Meanwhile, this sphere is mainly financed by the state,” noted the deputy minister adding that foreign donors are not very interested in investing in the agricultural sector.

Talibov believes that this is related not only to the risks in the sector, but also to the limited mechanisms of crediting that exist in agriculture.

He added that the recent presidential decree on additional measures for development of agriculture will allow improving the situation, expanding farmers’ access to funds and increasing competitiveness of the sector.
