Iran’s imports increase by 18%

Iran imported 2.091 million tons of goods, worth $2.348 billion during the first month of the current fiscal year (Started March 20, 2017).

The figure indicates an 18.58 percent increase in terms of value compared to the same period of preceding year, the Iranian Customs Administration reported May 3.

Corn fodder worth $144 million topped the list of Iran's imported goods during the 1-month period.

After corn fodder, rice worth $74 million, cars with engine capacities between 1500 -2000 cc worth $64 million, and soybean meal worth $57 million were among other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic in the last calendar month (ended Apr. 21).

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. Iran imported $485 million worth of goods from China in the 1-month period.

After China, the UAE ($402 million), Turkey ($180 million), South Korea ($143 million), and India ($131 million) were other four biggest exporters of goods to Iran.

Iran’s imports from China witnessed an increase by 26.6 percent during the period, meanwhile the UAE’s exports increased by 9.24 percent.

The Islamic Republic’s imports from Turkey and India also witnessed increase by 15.4 percent and 21.3 percent respectively.
