Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry grows by almost 3%

Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector showed a 2.8 percent growth in January-April 2017, while the oil sector decreased by 7.5 percent compared to the same period of 2016, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report as of January-April 2017.

According to the report, the total volume of industrial production (the volume of produced goods and rendered industrial services) in Azerbaijan amounted to 12.6 billion manats in January-April 2017, which is by 6 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

In January-April 2017, the volume of production in the mining industry reached 8.9 billion manats (70.5 percent) of the entire industrial production, which is by 7.4 percent less than in January-April 2016, the report said.

Some 12.6 million tons of oil and 6.3 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Azerbaijan in January-April 2017.

Oil production decreased by 9.5 percent, gas production – by 0.2 percent in January-April 2017 compared to January-April 2016.

The production volume in the processing industry amounted to 3 billion manats (23.8 percent of total industrial output) in January-April 2017, which is by 11.1 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

In this sector, the biggest growth was observed in the production of electrical appliances – by 2.4 times, in pharmaceutics – by 2.3 times and in the production of computers, electronics and optical products – by 2.1 percent.

Production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam increased by 2.4 percent in January-April 2017 as compared to the same period of 2016, while water supply, treatment and recycling of waste decreased by 1.2 percent.
