Azerbaijan remains major investor in Georgia

Direct investments from Azerbaijan to Georgia amounted to $97 million in the 1Q17, which accounts for 24.1 percent of total volume of foreign direct investments (FDI) to this country, according to a report of Georgia’s National Statistics Office.

Despite the decline by 29.2 percent in total volume of Azerbaijani investments in Georgia as compared to the 1Q16 and by 1.5 times as compared to the 4Q16, Azerbaijan is the biggest investor in Georgia.

Turkey ranks second with investments in the amount of $82 million (specific weight of 20.2 percent), and is followed by the United Kingdom - $80 million (19.8 percent).

The United Arab Emirates ($38 million or 9.68 percent) and Cyprus ($22 million or 5.46 percent) are also in the top-5 of big investors in Georgia.

Total volume of FDI in Georgia’s economy amounted to $403 million in the 1Q17, which is by 3.6 percent more than in the same period of 2016 and by 22.13 percent more than in the 4Q16.
