Surplus in Azerbaijan’s balance of tourism services exceeds $50M

The counter services had one of the leading places in Azerbaijan’s foreign economic relations in January-March 2017, the balance of payments published on the website of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.

The total turnover of the counter services amounted to $3 billion in January-March 2017, which is by 11.1 percent more than in January-March 2016.

The services worth $2 billion were rendered to Azerbaijani residents by non-residents.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijani residents rendered the services totaling $1 billion to the residents of foreign countries.

Thus, 13.1 percent accounted for the transportation services in the balance of counter services.

The turnover of transportation services totaled $397 million in January-March 2017, which is by 11.4 percent less than in January-March 2016.

For comparison, the turnover of transportation services amounted to $448 million and the share of transportation services in the balance of counter services – 16.8 percent in January-March 2016.

The non-residents spent 52.1 percent of those funds while using the transportation systems of Azerbaijan.

The cost of transportation services rendered to non-residents amounted to $207 million.

The cost of transportation services rendered to Azerbaijani residents amounted to $190 million.

The turnover of counter tourism services amounted to $1.3 billion in January-March 2017, which is by 9.8 percent more than in January-March 2016. As a result, a surplus worth $52 million was generated in the balance of tourism services.

The cost of tourism services rendered to residents in foreign countries amounted to $617 million, 71.7 percent of which account for Azerbaijani citizens’ expenditures as part of personal trips.

In the reporting period, the cost of construction services rendered by non-residents in the non-oil sector decreased by 62.7 percent up to $12 million.
