The measures are being taken to reconstruct a number of textile complexes operating in Turkmenistan, in particular, the Geoktepe textile complex, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the recent governmental meeting that it is necessary to accelerate the work of the processing enterprises, including the textile industry which is so strategically important for the national economy.

"Focusing on huge investments which are being made to improve the textile industry, President Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of renewing production capacity on an innovative basis, increasing the volumes of import-substituting competitive products," the newspaper said.

The textile complex located in the city of Geok Tepe (Akhal province) is one of the biggest textile enterprises in the country. The complex was built with the assistance of the specialists of the Turkish Cotam Enterprises Ltd.

The complex produces several types of yarn, around fifty items of knitted fabric and approximately the same volume of finished products. Most of the products are exported to Europe, Asia and America.

In 2008, the complex was awarded with the ISO 9001 international quality management standard, which was confirmed in 2015.
