By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

A mission of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is in Baku to summarize the results regarding one of the energy projects in Azerbaijan, a source in the bank told Trend June 19.

The mission headed by Ilker Ersegun Kayhan, senior evaluation specialist at the IDB, will stay in Azerbaijan until June 23, according to the source.

The mission’s task is to summarize and evaluate the efficiency of a project for the construction of the Janub power plant in Azerbaijan, the source said.

In this regard, the IDB representatives plan to hold meetings in the office of Azerbaijan’s electricity producer Azerenerji OJSC and the country’s Economy Ministry, the source noted.

At present, the IDB has no plans to implement new projects in Azerbaijan’s energy sector, according to the source.

Construction of the Janub power plant was completed about three years ago. The main goal of the project was to ensure reliable energy supply and increase the efficiency of the electricity generation system in Azerbaijan. The cost of the project was $199.8 million.

Azerbaijan joined the IDB in 1992.
