Freight traffic up in TRACECA’s Azerbaijan section

Some 17.13 million tons of cargo were transported via the Eurasian transport corridor TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through Azerbaijan’s territory in January-April 2017, says a report of Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

This is 9.1 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

According to the report, 60.2 percent of the total cargo transportation accounted for motor vehicle transportation, 26.4 percent for railway transportation and 13.4 percent for maritime transportation.

Meanwhile, some 19.7 percent of transported cargo accounted for transited goods.

TRACECA is an international program for cooperation in transportation between the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
