NEW DRAFT LAW TO UNIFY TECHNICAL REGULATION OF CERTIFICATION, STANDARDIZATION

The new draft law on technical regulation and standardization is intended to unify technical regulation of issues such as certification and standardization, Shovgi Mehdizade, the head of the Secretariat on talks for entrance to the World Trade Organization at the Ministry of Economic Development.

The ETO recommends Azerbaijan to increase the number of voluntary standards. "At present there are around 80% obligatory standards in the country, whereas the WTO recommends to make the majority as voluntary,” he underlined.

In accordance with the EU’s recommendations the law should be adopted this year Besides, the EU recommends to increase the status and sovereignty of the Agency for Standardization and Metrology.
