CONFERENCE ON EITI INITIATIVE TO BE HELD IN AZERBAIJAN

The regional conference on the issues of the extracting industry transparency will be held in the current autumn in Baku. The conference is scheduled for the late September- early October 2005, head of the Committee on the EITI initiative implementation Samir Sharifov told Trend.

The objective of the conference is familiarization of the region’s countries with the EITI implementation experience in Azerbaijan. Representatives from Kazakhstan have already been invited to the conference. The list of the guests will be specified after setting the exact date of the event.

The NGO planned to hold a similar conference at the level of the non-governmental organizations under the Soros Foundation funding and with the involvement of the World Bank, representatives of the African countries and Kazakhstan, international organizations and so on, chairman of the NGO Coalition, who signed the EITI implementation memorandum, Inglab Ahmedov told Trend. "Holding such a conference planned in 2005 and it is not ruled out, NGO may unite its efforts for staging the conference jointly with the state committee”, Ahmedov noted.
