YIELD OF TOBACCO IN AZERBAIJAN IN 2005 IS FORECASTED AS 8,000 TONS

Yield of tobacco leaves in Azerbaijan in 2005 is forecasted in the volume of about 8,000 tons, which is for 1300 tons more of the 2004 figure.

According to the data for the early August, harvesting of tobacco leaves is performed in the amount of 1600 tons, which is by 58% more of the last year’s figure for the same period, head of the horticulture department of the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Ismailov told Trend.

According to him, tobacco leaves are mostly yielded on the territory of the Sheki-Zagatali economic area, comprising Zagatali, Sheki, Gakh, Gebele and Balaken.

The total area of tobacco crops will make about 3,000 hectares in the current year, which harvesting is planned to complete in October. Ismailov also underlined, the last year’s figure of the tobacco leaves yield was 6500 tons throughout the country.
