KFW TO ORGANIZE MONITORING OF ANTI-TB PROJECT IN AZERBAIJAN

The German bank for reconstruction KfW is going to hold a monitoring of the implementation of the program on �Tuberculosis fighting and control’, the Baku Office of the KfW, said that a group of KfW experts will arrive in Baku in this connection.

By that time it is planned to summarize the result of the tender for medical supply to the laboratory for TB-affected people.

The German Society for Technical Cooperation GTZ will be involved in the selection of the contractors. The construction and equipment of the laboratory will cost $0.25m. The construction work will start in October and complete by March 2006. It will be a central tuberculosis laboratory in Azerbaijan.

An Azerbaijan-Germany intergovernmental agreement on approval of 3m euro for 5 years under the program on �Tuberculosis fighting and control’ was signed in 2004. The funds were directed at the establishment and equipment of special laboratories in Baku and 5 regions of the country, medical supply for tuberculosis. The grant was allotted under the KfW’s regional programs on Caucasus. The funds to be allocated to Azerbaijan will be more twice than the sum allotted for Georgia and Armenia.
