Рђzerbaijan plans to overfulfil the UNO Millenium Development Goals on poverty reduction. The goal stipulates double reduction of poverty by 2015, the Minister of Economic Development Farhad Aliyev told Trend.

"The first program for the poverty reduction was developed in Azerbaijan in 2002 and commenced implementing in 2003-2005. For the moment of the start of the State Program implementation 49% of the population lived within the poverty line. Under the Millenium Development Goals the poverty by 2015 in the world must be reduced two times. For Azerbaijan this figure is maximum 24% of the poor population. However, in the countries with a large number of poor population the tempo of economic development vary within the range of 5%-10%, while this index in Azerbaijan for the current year is 20%, for the next year is 30%. Such high tempo of the economic growth give grounds for the hope that Azerbaijan by 2015 will manage to reduce poverty more than two times”, Aliyev noted.
