Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan accord on single tariff for containerized cargo transportation through TRACECA corridor

“Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan accorded on single tariffs for containerized cargo transportation through the TRACECA corridor at the working meeting held in late October at Actau port to increase cargo transportation,” Sadraddin Mammadov, the head of the Transport Policy and Economy Department of the Transport Ministry, told Trend.

According to Mammadov, earlier the sides accorded to reduce the tariffs by 50%, but the tariffs in Azerbaijan were lower than in Georgia and Kazakhstan. Therefore, they decided to apply single tariff. Thus, transportation comprises $0,022 per ton/km cargo.

Mammadov reported that they plan to organize pilot demonstration container train on the Poti-Baku-Actau-Almati route till late 2005.

All participants of the meeting agreed concerning launch of the container train and signed a protocol on intensification of cargo transportation via Actau port, as well as discussed technologic peculiarities of cargo transportation through Actau port, railway and marine tariffs.
