Construction of new enterprises in the Mangistau region may cause electricity shortage by 2015, Board Chairman of the JSC Kazatomprom National Atomic Company Vladimir Shkolnik said at the government meeting in Kazakhstan.

He said load in winter already reaches 620 megawatt. Analysis of last 6-8 years shows that a growth in load is going at 6-7 percent rate. If additional measures on constructing new facilities are not taken, shortage will be felt in 2015, Mr Shkolnik said. The company's head stressed that it is necessary to start construction of steam-gas plant with capacity of 250 megawatt at the Mangistau atomic energy plant in order not to face deficit in 2015-2016. Kazatomprom has already developed preliminary feasibility study of this project.
