A preliminary agreement was achieved on the basic conditions for construction and delivery of two tankers of the 19900 project for Turkmenistan in 2013-2014, a press release of the Russian Marine and Oil and Gas Projects (MNP) said.

Chair of the Turkmen State Service for Maritime and River Transport Rustam Kutlyev held negotiations with MNP representatives.

During the meeting they discussed issues of cooperation with the Krasnoye Sormovo factory management at Nizhny Novgorod for the construction of cargo, cargo-passenger ships and auxiliary vessels.

The information quoted the executive director of the MNP group Vadim Malov saying that "The Caspian region is historically crucial for the Krasnoye Sormovo".

He said the cooperation with Turkmenistan has lasted for four years and is supported by four oil tankers built at Krasnoye Sormovo. The last one from the new 19900 project was delivered to the customer in May 2012.

The press release stated that the lead Jeyhun tanker built in Turkmenistan in 2010, was included in the list of Significant Vessels in 2010 by the Royal Society of Naval Architects.

Technical and economic indicators improved significantly compared to the same tonnage vessels. Management tools were automated and safe working conditions for the crew were developed during all areas of the vessel's operation. This allows these vessels to work in special ecological areas which is particularly important for the fragile ecosystem of the Caspian Sea.
