Azerbaijan, Russia sign agreement on common policy for energy systems modernization and development

An agreement on measures to ensure the parallel operation of the Unified Energy System of Russia and the energy system of Azerbaijan was signed on June 6 in Volgograd during the IV Russian-Azerbaijani forum "Russia-Azerbaijan: Cross-Regional Dialogue 2013", ITAR-TASS reported on Thursday.

An agreement on measures to ensure the parallel operation of the Unified Energy System of Russia and the energy system of Azerbaijan was signed on June 6 in Volgograd during the IV Russian-Azerbaijani forum "Russia-Azerbaijan: Cross-Regional Dialogue 2013", ITAR-TASS reported on Thursday.

"We have reached a new level of reliability and efficiency of our energy systems. The agreement will allow for the establishment of common policies for modernization and development of energy systems," Russia's Deputy Energy Minister Anton Inyutsin told reporters after the signing.

The Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev, in turn, noted "exceptional importance" of the document: "We are committed to helping each other in regards to the reliability of our power systems and in providing mutual assistance during emergencies," Aliyev said.

Another document signed on June 6 during the Forum was the agreement on economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation between the Volgograd region and Azerbaijan.

During "round tables" held within the forum, a constructive exchange of views on bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and transport communications, human relations and youth policy took place. It was noted that Russia and Azerbaijan have achieved significant progress in harnessing the potential of traditional trade relations in industry and agriculture.

The forum participants adopted a final declaration, which stresses that the ongoing development of inter-regional cooperation is in the interest of the Russian and Azerbaijani peoples and serves to strengthen the trust and mutual rapprochement between peoples. It was decided to hold the next V Russian-Azerbaijani forum in 2014 in Azerbaijan.
