Kazakh-Russian joint venture acquires stake in Ural Electrochemical Plant

On September 27, 2013, a deal was completed on the acquisition by the Russian-Kazakh company Uranium Enrichment Centre (UEC) JSC of a 25 per cent plus one share in the authorised capital of the Ural Electrochemical Plant JSC (UEC project ), a statement from Kazakh company Kazatomprom said on Tuesday.

'By the end of this year, Uranium Enrichment Centre JSC has to make the first commercial delivery of 300,000 SWU (separative work unit). As part of the plan, the joint venture will have access to uranium enrichment services amounting to five million SWU per year', the report said.

The UEC project is implemented within the framework of the agreements of the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia and enshrined in the comprehensive programme of Russian-Kazakh cooperation on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

In July 5, 2010, NAC Kazatomprom JSC and Rosatom State Corporation signed a joint statement on the implementation of the project in the format of the Uranium Enrichment Centre's participation in the authorised capital of the Russian company Ural Electrochemical Integrated Plant JSC.

The UEC project is the first in the nuclear fuel cycle of Russia related to the implementation by the foreign partner of investments in the form of the acquisition of shares in the authorised capital of the Russian company which has strategic importance.

Uranium Enrichment Centre JSC established on a parity basis is a Russian-Kazakh joint venture. 50 per cent of the shares belong to TVEL JSC (Rosatom Fuel Company) and 50 per cent of the shares to NAC Kazatomprom JSC.
