The future role of Azerbaijan as an energy supplier and transit country has become a major topic of discussion at the European Energy Summit held in Istanbul on October 30-31, according to the information released by the European Azerbaijan Society.

The summit also discussed the EU priorities in the energy market, European energy security, the development of the Turkish energy sector and European infrastructure technologies and other issues.

The summit was attended by Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, TAP External Affairs Director Michael Hoffman and other officials.

Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bakhysh spoke about special relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Director of the European Azerbaijan Society Lionel Zetter, in his turn, said that the Society is pleased to co-sponsor jointly with the world famous The Economist magazine this important event.

"Despite the fact that this summit mainly aimed at Turkey, each session and presentation discussed the close ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey," he said.

It should be noted that the European Azerbaijan Society sponsored a reception held in the framework of the summit.
