Gas export increases via South Caucasus Pipeline

During the first nine months of 2013, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) spent over $48 million in capital expenditures, BP's report as of nine months said today.

For the full year BTC capital expenditures are expected to be $97 million.

According to the report, since 4 June 2006 up to the end of the third quarter of 2013, 2,304 tankers were loaded at Ceyhan with a total of about 1,773 million barrels (237.2 million tonnes) of crude oil transported via BTC and sent to world markets.

During the first nine months of 2013, BTC exported about 186 million barrels (about 24.7 million tonnes) of crude oil loaded on 243 tankers at Ceyhan.

The total length of BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, a 249 kilometer section via Georgia and 1,076 kilometers via Turkey. Construction of the pipeline began in April 2003 and was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders include BP (30.1per cent); AzBTC (25 per cent); Chevron (8.90 per cent); Statoil Hydro (8.71 per cent); ТРАО (6.53 per cent); Eni (5 per cent); Total (5 per cent); Itochu (3.40 per cent); Inpex (2.50 per cent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 per cent) and ONGC (2.36 per cent).

During the first nine months of 2013, South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) spent about $9 million in capital expenditures. For the full year it is planned to spend over $13 million in SCP capital expenditures, the report said.

During the first nine months of 2013, SCP's daily average throughput was about 12.4 million cubic metres (about 437.2 million cubic feet) of gas or 75,376 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (South Caucasus gas pipeline) is over 700 km. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via the pipeline. The gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan also is a buyer of gas.
