The Kazakh Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant which is a fully owned subsidiary of KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing, received a certificate of with ISO 50001:2011 compliance 'Energy Management System', the company sad on Feb. 19.

'The transition to ISO 50001:2011 is being implemented as part of the innovation development and energy efficiency policy of a group of companies within KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing', a statement said.

The main objectives of the group of companies in the field of energy management are to use innovation in relation to production, energy efficiency and participation in the implementation of the concept of Kazakhstan's transition to a 'green economy'.

In particular, 24 fuel burners at P-101 furnaces were replaced at the LK -6U complex of the Pavlodar petrochemical plant in 2013. Other operations were also conducted. Eight fuel burners were reconstructed at bitumen production units. More than 18,000 square metres of thermal insulation for pipelines were modernised. More than 700 LED lamps were installed at the plant.

Thanks to these reforms, the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (PPCP) managed to decrease electricity consumption by 7.4 percent in 2013, fuel consumption by 11.6 percent and heat energy consumption from thermoelectric plant-3 by 6.2 percent. The expenditures for implementation of the measures amounted to 281.52 million tenge (184.51 tenge = $1).

Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant was the first enterprise in the Pavlodar region that held a certification audit of energy management system from November 2013 to December 2013. The audit was conducted by international experts from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

With the new energy management certificate, PPCP gets a number of advantages such as the use of energy-saving and energy-efficient technology and equipment with a focus on heat and fuel efficiency, the introduction of 'green' technologies, improving energy efficiency indicators, accounting for the criteria in energy efficiency in the procurement and design of equipment and technological processes and the improvement of energy consumption accounting.

It is planned to hold over 20 measures in 2014 for energy conservation and increase energy efficiency which will significantly reduce the consumption of energy resources by the enterprise.

Simultaneously with the introduction of energy management, the plant made the transition to another standard - social responsibility in 2014.

The National Centre for Expertise and Certification JSC confirmed the correspondence of PPCP's management system of social responsibility with the requirements of national and international standard ST RK 1352 (SA 8000) on Jan.31.

Three enterprises, including the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant have valid ST RK 1352 (SA 8000) certificates of conformity in Kazakhstan, according to the National Centre for Expertise and Certification JSC.
