Cargo transportation volumes via Azerbaijani segment of Eurasian corridor decrease

Some 8.9 million tons of cargo were transported via the Eurasian transport corridor TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through the territory of Azerbaijan in January-February 2014 compared to 9.7 million tons in January-February 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said on April 21.

Some 52 percent of the total volume of transported cargo fell to vehicles, 31.3 percent - railway and 16.7 percent - ships.

Some 49.8 million passengers were transported as part of the corridor in January-February or by 7.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The revenues from cargo transportation as part of the corridor for the period totaled 77.2 million manat, which is 1.5 percent more than in January-February 2013.
The revenues from passenger transportation totaled 17.3 million manat in January-February, which is 13 percent more than in January-February 2013.

Some 59 million tons of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani segment of the corridor in 2013, which is 3.8 percent more than in 2012. Some 285.2 million people were transported as part of the corridor in 2013, which is 9.3 percent more than in 2012. The revenues from cargo transportation through the corridor in 2013 amounted to 476.4 million manat, which is 7.5 percent more than in 2012. The revenues from passenger transportation amounted to 106.5 million manat in 2013, which is 15.8 percent more than in 2012.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport among the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Iran.
