Kazakhstan predicts growth of oil cargo transportation by railway by 2020

The volume of oil cargo transportation by railway in Kazakhstan will reach 41.1 million tonnes in 2020 compared to 37.2 million tonnes projected for the current year, according to the forecasts.

Deputy Head of the department under Kazakhstan Railways Dualetbek Nigmetov made this statement at the seventh Caspian Oil and Gas Trading and Transportation Conference in Baku on April 29.

The volume of oil cargo transportation by railway is projected at 15 million tonnes, petroleum products - 26.3 million tonnes in 2020. In 2014, these figures are projected at 12.6 million and 24.6 million tonnes respectively.

Taking into account the projections for oil production, its volumes are expected to decline up to 5.3 million tonnes from 2015. However, taking into account the forecasts on increasing oil production in the fields of the country, the volume of oil shipments by railway could reach 15 million tonnes in 2018.

"The minimum oil transportation rate is expected to reach 13 million tons from 2018," he said.

The oil production volume will reach 117 million tonnes in Kazakhstan in 2020 compared to 83 million tonnes in 2014. Its domestic consumption will increase from 15 million tonnes in 2014 to 19 million tonnes in 2020, according to the forecasts.
