Iran to export liquefied natural gas to South Africa

Iran will export 2 million tons of liquefied natural gas to South Africa per year.

Hassan Khosrojerdi, the director of the association of Iranian oil product exporters, said that the two countries signed an agreement last week, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on June 16.

Iran has also expressed interest for buying or renting oil storage facilities in the African country, he added.

Iran is currently selling liquefied natural gas at around $750 per ton.

South Africa was the 45th biggest trading partner of Iran in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2014, according to the Iranian Customs Administration.

The annual trade between Iran and South Africa amounted to $52.4 million in the previous year. South Africa exported $13.4 million worth of goods to Iran and imported $39 million worth of goods from the country in Iranian year 1392 (March 2013-March 2014).
