Cargo transportation through Azerbaijani segment of Eurasian transport corridor decreases

Around 23.4 million tonnes of cargo was transported via the Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, the Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through Azerbaijan in January-May, versus 24.3 million tonnes in the same period of 2013, the country's State Statistical Committee said in its report.

Vehicles accounted for 49.6 percent of the total volume of cargo transportation, railway - 33.6 percent, and waterway - 16.8 percent, according to the committee's report.

Around 124.9 million people were transported via TRACECA in January-May, which is 7.9 percent more than in the same period of 2013, the Statistical Committee said.

During the reporting period, the revenues from the cargo transportation via this corridor amounted to 202.4 million AZN, or 6.3 percent more than in the same period of 2013. The revenues from the passenger transportation stood at 43.7 million AZN in January-May, which is 12.7 percent more than in the same period of 2013.

Some 59 million tonnes of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani segment of the corridor in 2013, which is 3.8 percent more than in 2012. Some 285.2 million people were transported through the corridor in 2013, which is 9.3 percent more than in 2012.

The revenues from cargo transportation through the corridor in 2013 amounted to 476.4 million AZN, which is 7.5 percent more than in 2012. The revenues from passenger transportation stood at 106.5 million AZN in 2013, which is 15.8 percent more than in 2012.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the sphere of transport among the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
