Iran offers to establish the supply of oil to Uzbekistan in the amount of up to one million tons per year through Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor, according to the report of the Iranian Embassy in Tashkent.

The foreign ministers of the four countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the entry into force of the agreement on the creation of the corridor in early August.

The agreement on the establishment of new international transport corridor, which will connect the Central Asian states to the ports of the Persian Gulf, was signed in April 2011.

The transport corridor will pass through Iran and will connect Central Asian countries with Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Part of the transit corridor will pass through the railway linking Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran, and some part - on the sea (from the Iranian ports of Bandar Abbas and Chahbahar to the ports of Oman).

At present, 1.6 million tons of cargo is transported on the railways of the three countries and if an agreement is reached, the figure can be increased by three million tons, the report said.

In November 2013, the Iranian side has provided Uzbekistan with a 30 percent discount on the transit of cotton fiber by railway. Discounts will be valid for one year, with a further extension of the agreement by the parties.
