Iran's gas output increased by 30 percent in the first four months of the current year, compared to same period last year.

Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Roknoddin Javadi said that an increase in the gas output of giant South Pars gas field has made the country able to reduce power plants' diesel oil consumption by one billion liters, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported on Aug.19.

He went on to note that currently the production rate of Iran's western oil fields near the Iraq border has reached 700,000 barrels per day.

"The figure is expected to reach one billion liters by the end of the Iranian calendar year of 1396 (to end March 20, 2018)," he explained.

"Four new drilling rigs have also been installed in the South Azadegan field," Javadi added.

According to Javadi, development of Kish gas field is also among top priorities of the oil ministry.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijian Namdar Zanganeh said on Aug. 19 that Iran's total gas production will reach 200 million cubic meters per day in the next two years.

"By increasing Iran's total gas output especially from joint fields, the country's liquid fuel consumption in industrial units and power plants will be reduced," Zanganeh explained.

He went on to note that the country's giant South Pars gas field will fully become operational by the end of the Iranian calendar year of 1396 (to end March 20, 2018).

"The first priority of the oil ministry is to develop phases 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18 of South Pars," Zanganeh said, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on Aug. 19.

"Once the mentioned phases come on stream, the development of other phases will be started," he explained.

Iranian oil minister added that Iran will be able to produce 40,000 barrels of gas condensates from each phase of the South Pars gas field.

"By launching four phases of the field, Iran will annually earn $5 billion by producing gas condensates," he said.
