A Russian company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the construction of Iranshahr-Chabahar gas pipeline in southeastern part of Iran.

Asghar Soheilipour, an official of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said that the project will take about two years, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on August 23.

"NIGC has allocated an investment package worth $2 billion for the completion of the seventh national gas pipeline," he said.

"Currently, the construction of a part of the pipeline stretching from Assalouyeh to Iranshahr has been completed. However, to lay the remaining part of the pipeline, $2 billion are required."

The pipeline will ultimately stretch to Sistan-Baluchestan province.

Soheilipour announced that NIGC plans to build a 200-km gas pipeline from Zahedan to Zabol.
