The Khachmaz thermal power plant (TPP), which plays an important role in the energy supply of the northern region of Azerbaijan, generated 159.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity in January-July, Azerenergy, a major producer of electricity in Azerbaijan, said Aug. 25.

The power station generated about 22.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity in July, according to the report.

The capacity of the Khachmaz thermal power plant Power Khachmaz, consisting of 10 energy blocks, is 87 megawatts. In 2013, the plant generated about 268.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

The capacity of Azerbaijan's power system has increased by 30 percent over the past five years. At present, the figure is 7105 megawatts, which enables to generate about 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. This also enables the country to export annually 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
