SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) in the near future plans to put into operation a new production platform in the Chilov field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, stated SOCAR Aug. 28.
The statement says that the new platform, which has been completed, is designed to drill 10 wells.
SOCAR is drilling both onshore and offshore fields in Azerbaijan to implement a program to stabilize and increase oil production.
In January-July 2014, SOCAR produced 4.91 million tonnes from the onshore and offshore fields in the country compared to 4.85 million tonnes in the same period of 2013.
In 2013, SOCAR produced more than 8.31 million tonnes versus 8.24 million tonnes in 2012. In 2013 in total, some 43.48 million tonnes were produced in Azerbaijan versus 43 million tonnes in 2012.
