Iran may raise energy carriers’ prices by 30%

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran may raise energy carriers' prices by 30 percent in the next fiscal year (will begin on March 21, 2015).

Iranian MP Jafar Qaderi said the government envisages that it will earn 480 trillion rials (about $14 billion based on USD free market exchange rate of 34,000 rials) in the next year, the same as the current year, from implementing the subsidy reform plan, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Dec. 15.

However, the income in the previous year was 280 trillion rials (about $8 billion). So, the government can increase energy carriers' prices 20 to 30 percent in order to earn 480 trillion rials projected figure, he explained.

Iran's Vice President Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said on June 3 that Iranian government has no plan to increase the prices of energy carriers again.

Iranian government increased the prices of gasoline and other energy carriers as part of implementing the second phase of subsidy reform plan.

National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) onApril 24 increased semi-subsidized gasoline price to 7,000 rials, while the free market price stood at 10,000 rials.

Semi-subsidized gasoline was previously sold at 4,000 rials, while the free market gasoline price was 7,000 rials.

Iranians with cars will receive a monthly allowance of 60 liters with the semi-subsidized price and have to pay the free market price for larger volumes.

Diesel oil is sold at 2,500 rials, while CNG is presented at the price of 4,500 rials per cubic meters.
