Azerbaijan slightly reduces electricity export

Azerbaijan exported 544.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity in January-November 2014 in accordance with the customs declaration compared to 586.66 million kilowatt hours in the same period of 2013, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said Dec. 15.

Azerbaijan exported electricity worth $28.52 million in January-November compared to $24.31 million in the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The country exported over 595.67 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth $24.85 million in 2013 in accordance with the customs declaration, compared to 482.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity worth around $24.76 million in 2012.

Azerenergy JSC is the main electricity producer in Azerbaijan and owns hundreds of substations and dozens of power plants.

The generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased by 30 percent for the last five years. Currently, its capacity is 7,105 megawatt. This allows generating around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and exporting about 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
