Non-oil sector of Azerbaijani economy increases by 7%

A total volume of Azerbaijan's GDP amounted to 31.9 billion AZN in 2014 or 0.7 percent less than in the same period of 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said.

Azerbaijan's non-oil sector in 2014 showed a 6.9 percent growth, while the oil sector declined 2.4 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry hit 22.2 billion AZN with a weight of 69.6 percent of the entire industrial production, which is 2.3 percent less than in 2013.

Oil production volume amounted to 41.89 million tons, while natural gas production was 18.7 billion cubic meters. Oil production declined by 2.8 percent, while gas production increased by 4.9 percent compared to 2013.

The volume of production in the processing industry amounted to 7.6 billion AZN (24 percent of total industrial output) in 2014 or by 2.2 percent more than in 2013.

The growth was observed in the production of vehicles - by 3.4 times, tobacco - by 66.6 percent, jewelry, music, sports and medical equipment - by 80.9 percent, the repair and installation of machinery and equipment - 41 percent, the production of motor vehicles and trailers - 58.2 percent, clothing - by 59.9 percent, chemical industry - 32 percent, building material production - 22.2 percent, etc.

Production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam hit 5.7 percent of the total production volume, but water supply, treatment and recycling of waste - 0.7 percent.

The official exchange rate is 0.7844 AZN/USD on Jan. 21.
