By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Construction of a refinery aiming at producing euro-4 gasoline will start in Iran's northeastern province next week.

Mohammad Ali Yousefi, managing director of North Khorasan Industrial Estates Company, said that the private sector will invest in the project, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on March 1.

The refinery will produce 6,000 barrels of gasoline meeting euro-4 standards, he said, adding that it will also produce fuel oil and liquefied natural gas.

Construction of the refinery is projected to be completed for 36 months, he noted.

Some 1660 billion rials (about $60 million based on US dollar official exchange rate) has been allocated to the first phase of the project, he said.

Some 30 percent of gasoline which is sold in Iran's market meets euro-4 standards, said Naser Sajjadi, managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company.

Sajjadi said 18-20 million liters of euro-4 gasoline is being supplied to the market per day.

Euro-4 is a globally-accepted European emission standard for the production of vehicle fuel with significantly low amounts of sulfur.
