Czech Republic interested in purchasing Azerbaijani gas

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 3

By Azad Hasanli - Trend:

The Czech Republic is interested in the long-term gas supplies from Azerbaijan, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Jan Mladek said on March 3.

He made the remarks during the Azerbaijani-Czech business forum in Baku.

Mladek said that Azerbaijan accounted for around one third of the Czech Republic's oil import in 2014.

Talking about the interests of the Czech Republic in purchasing Azerbaijani gas, he added that in this regard, the project for construction of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline is very important.

Furthermore, Mladek said that taking into account the failure of Nabucco and South Stream projects and that the implementation of the Turkish Stream project will take quite some time, currently, TANAP is the most real project in this sphere.

Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for EU. This project envisages the delivery of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to Europe.

As part of the second stage of the field's development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus gas pipeline and the construction of TANAP and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) gas pipelines.

During the talks in Turkey on Dec.1, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the closure of the project for construction of South Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Bulgaria.

Immediately after this, a new Turkish Stream project was initiated. This project is designed for Turkey and consumers of EU countries which will be able to get the desired volume of gas from the trading hub on Turkish-Greece border.
