US increased import of Azerbaijani petroleum products in 2014

The US imported 484,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2014, compared to 366,000 barrels in 2013, said the message posted on the website of the US Energy Information Administration Apr.13.

The US imported 34,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products in December 2014, said the message. This is while the country didn't import petroleum products from Azerbaijan in December 2013.

The whole volume of the imported products by this country accounted for naphtha that is used as raw material in the petrochemical industry.

The US imported 366,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2013, compared to 46,000 barrels in 2012.

After a long break from 2009 to 2012, the US resumed the import of petroleum products from Azerbaijan. The country imported 308,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products in 2008.

It should be noted that the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan is the only producer of petroleum products in the country.

Earlier, the petroleum products were produced at two oil refineries in Baku.

However, SOCAR announced about the liquidation of Azneftyag oil refinery and its merger with the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev in December 2014.
