Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company will construct the external power supply facilities for the Kandym gas processing plant in 2015-2017, the Uzbek energy company's management told Trend.

The Kandym gas processing plant is the largest investment project of Russia's Lukoil national company in Uzbekistan.

"Two 220 kilowatt-high-voltage lines with a total length of 90 kilometers are the largest ones in the external power supply in this project," an Uzbekenergo representative said.

The representative said that the construction will cost $58.8 million and will be financed through Uzbekenergo's own funds and loans from international financial institutions.

It was reported that LUKOIL has been implementing the Kandym project since 2004 together with the Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company as part of the Kandym-Khauzak-Shady-Kungrad PSA.

Kandym group includes six gas condensate fields - Kandym, Kuvachi-Alat, Akkum, Parsankul, Khoji and Western Khoji. The production at Khauzak site started in autumn 2007.

The project envisages the development of these fields and the construction of a gas processing plant. The gas processing plant with capacity of 8.1 billion cubic meters of gas a year will allow to process natural gas containing hydrogen sulfide from Kandym group of fields located in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan in order to obtain purified natural gas, stable gas condensate, as well as ball sulfur and granulated sulfur. The commissioning of the first phase of the gas processing plant is scheduled for July 2018.

Lukoil has started the active phase of implementation of Kandym project in Uzbekistan. The first phase of the project is designed for production of 2.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Kuvachi-Alat field and the North Shady section of the Khauzak-Shady field and delivering gas to the Mubarek gas processing plant.

Taking into account the development of the gas and condensate fields, the investments in the project are estimated at over $3 billion.

Lukoil and the consortium of contractors led by Hyundai Engineering (South Korea) signed a contract worth $2.662 billion for equipment supply and construction of Kandym gas processing plant in February 2015.

Currently, Lukoil works on the implementation of three projects in Uzbekistan - Kandym-Khauzak-Shady-Kungrad, development of Southwest Hissar fields, as well as the geological exploration of the Uzbek section of Aral Sea as part of an international consortium.

The company implements the mentioned projects under the terms of the production sharing agreement.

Lukoil plans to produce at least 18 billion cubic meters of gas in Uzbekistan per year by 2016.

The production at the fields in Uzbekistan totaled 4 billion cubic meters of gas and over 100,000 metric tons of liquid hydrocarbons in 2014, according to the company.
