Iran can turn into ‘gas hub’ for Bulgaria

"Iran can be the main source to gratify the Bulgarian prime minister's initial idea of creating a gas hub," Abdollah Noruzi, Iranian Ambassador to Bulgarian capital Sofia said.

Noruzi made the statement in a meeting with Bulgarian representative in the European Parliament Andrey Kovatchev, IRNA news agency reported April 26.

The Iranian ambassador asserted that Iran can launch cooperation with Bulgaria, especially in energy and fighting terrorism.

Pointing to the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's last-year trip to Tehran, he hoped that negotiations between officials from Tehran and Sofia would pave the way for robust cooperation.

Kovatchev for his part expressed satisfaction that the Armenian minority in Iran enjoy good living conditions.

Pointing to Iran's wealth in the energy section, he said that in the European Parliament the establishment of a new gas pipeline and the situation of Iran in relation to the plan is under discussion.

He stressed that such cooperation would benefit both Iran and the EU.

According to the Iranian Customs Administration, Iran's total export to Bulgaria in the Iranian fiscal year 1392 (March 21, 2013 to March 20, 2014) was 7.8 metric tons, worth $5,005,211.

During the same period, Iran's import from Bulgaria was registered at 33.2 metric tons, worth $25,134,014.
