Tehran, Iran, July 5

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Iran is holding talks with the biggest FLNG vessels factory to have FLNG ships at the Gulf, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Exports Company Alireza Kameli said.

FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas) vessels are ships that turn natural gas into LNG, Kameli added.

Due to the high economic efficiency of these ships, Iran is moving toward using FLNG vessels, Kameli said, SHANA news agency reported July 5.

Kameli went on to say that Iran is holding preliminary talks with 170 foreign companies for gas export.

If there were not the sanctions, a number of contracts would have been signed in the previous year, he stated.

Through the current talks, the National Iranian Gas Export Company is buying time to start exports right after the sanctions are removed, the official added.

Iran is under harsh economic sanctions posed under allegations related to its nuclear program. Now the country is in talks with the group 5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) to lift the sanctions.

During this year, Iran's gas production increased by about 51 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) and its gas production capacity increased by 100 mcm/d. For the current year, the same growth rate in gas production capacity is planned.

Iran plans to raise its gas production to 368 billion cubic meters per annum (bcm/a) by 2019. Meanwhile, the country's gas export would reach to 80 bcm/a by 2022. Iran's Outlook Plan Document has envisaged exporting gas to Europe. At present, Iran has obligation to export 52 bcm/a of gas based on signed memorandum of understandings (MoU) and agreements to Iraq, Oman, Pakistan and Turkey.
