Georgia increases Azerbaijani gas import

Georgia imported some 816,910 metric tons of natural gas in oil equivalent worth $168.67 million from Azerbaijan in January-June 2015, the Georgian National Statistics Service's foreign trade report for the mentioned period says.

In annual terms, Georgia's natural gas import from Azerbaijan increased in terms of value by 11.5 percent. In terms of quantity the supply increased by 79,700 metric tons of oil equivalent or by 10.8 percent.

For comparison, Georgia imported some 737,240 metric tons of gas in oil equivalent worth $151.3 million from Azerbaijan in January-June 2014.

The share of gas in Georgia's total imports from Azerbaijan over the period hit 60.7 percent.
Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this type of fuel to Georgia with a specific weight of 76 percent of the country's total imports in this category.

Georgia imported the goods worth $221.95 million from Azerbaijan in January-June 2015.
The rest gas supply accounted for Russia and other sources.

Georgia imported the goods worth $277.9 million from Azerbaijan in January-June 2015, which is 5.7 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Azerbaijan exports its gas to Georgia via a pipeline linking the two countries in the Gazakh district of Azerbaijan.

The capacity of the gas pumping through this pipeline exceeds 2.5 billion cubic meters per year.
